the pursuit of happyness

since suddenly i felt like watching a movie, went to Roppongi Toho cinemas afterwork. i don't feel so comfortable in roppongi but good thing is that they have so many late shows and some of them even start around 3 in the morning. wanted to watch something riduculous and stupid (maybe something like zoolander or anchorman) but seemed there were no good comedies at this time. so gave up comedies and compromised with "the pursuit of the happyness" although my boss had just warned me "that movie sucks".

yeah it was bad choice. 「幸せのちから」、泣けるサクセスストーリーなんじゃないかとなんとな～く期待してたのだけれど、やっぱり相変わらずおすぎの言うことはあてにならないなあ。why can't they make the movie in happier atmosphere even it's success story? 勝手な言い草ですけど、will smithとか黒人さんを主人公にしているならもう少し明るさを入れてもいいんじゃないかと。they didn't even put any joking line in that movie! hotel rwandaのように重いテーマを扱っているならまだしも、ハッピーエンドのsuccess storyの筈なのに、ひたすら貧乏人の生活は辛いんだぞー、みたいのを延々と見せられているような感じでした。

こんなことなら”あなたになら言える秘密のこと”にするべきだったか。カナダ人のSarah Polley結構好きな役者さんだし、Tim Robbinsは更に好きであるし。Shawshank Redemptionでのシリアスな演技はもちろん、Human Natureみたいな阿呆な映画に出てるのも良い。この間たまたまハワード・ザ・ダックという、アヒルが主人公のお馬鹿映画観ていたらやたら若いティムロビンスが出ていてびっくりしました。

ohhhh look at this heart-shaped chocolate! isn't it sweet? and actually it WAS sweet. too sweet.
couldn't find enough dark chocolate so i used milk-chocolate instead. and too much powder sugar on it. you need a lot of powder sugar when you have to cover-up non-smooth surfaced chocolate.... sweet sugar on sweet chocolate! feel sorry for the guy who gets this chocolate especially when he is receiving 5 of these... better that japan changes its custom of giving chocolate into from boys to girls not from girls to boys on valentines day. then the chocolates would be happier as well.

でも今年は申し訳ないことに失敗した。毎年あげる人がいようがいまいが、チョコ作るのですが普段のほうがおいしいかも。

but it was fun! my friends from highschool got together at my place and we just had a good time in making chocolate though we know such things usually should be done when we are elementary school students. how old are we now? no problem!

でもチョコを作る姿というのは絶対男性陣には見せられないですね。今回は特に暖房を効かせた部屋で作ってしまったものだからひどかった・・・絶対皆食欲なくします。

それとV-day あたりはどうしても家にチョコが増えてしまっていけないですね。

pricey tissues

one thing currently i'm interested in. ultra-super soft facial tissues from nepia. 超鼻セレブ $30 for 2 boxes. it's not that they sprinkled gold in it but they do put some aroma oil and moisturizer and it is 3 ply. hmmm, doesn't that sound good? you won't get red nose with it even after you blow your nose 100 times. この頃眠くなるとやたら鼻水が出てくる。だから仕事中結構鼻かみっぱなしで、赤鼻気味なのでこれはちょっと試してみたいなあ。まあまずは普通に鼻セレブにトライかな。

こういった意味でやはり日本は色々すごいです。新商品。北米でtissueといえばkleenexが主流でティッシュペーパー持ってる？などと聞きたい時にkleenex brandでなくてもdo you have kleenex? などと聞いたりするのだけれど、それだけメジャーでも商品自体はあまり面白くない。ultra softとか売ってはいるけれどさすがにaroma oilは入ってない。でも３枚重ねが結構多かったかも。

でもkleenexで思いましたが北米もbrand nameというのは強い。競争は厳しい筈なのに結局一番名の売れている商品の勝ち。それらの商品名は動詞になったりするケースが多いです。「コピーしなくちゃ」は"i need to xerox"であったり「地図で調べて」は"you googlemap"であったり。「スタバしよ～」といったものと同じ感じなのかな？言葉の使い方としては間違っているのでしょうがその時代を反映するものであると思うので結構面白いです。

after i suffered from something looks like norovirus at the beginning of january, my stomach is not working well yet.... norovirus is one kind of stomach flu so it means i can get the virus again if it is slightly different type. did i get the virus again? my boss has been off for 3 days since his vomit doesn't stop so i don't get surprised if i get sick again. yay, chance to lose my weight!　私にしては珍しくちょっと食欲減りました。すごくお腹すいているのに実際食べ始めると胸がつかえるような感じ。だから簡単に胃に流せるお酒だけは飲んじゃったりする生活なのでこの頃かなり不健康です。はやく胃腸を休ませなければ。

でもノロはやはり噂通りちょっときつかったぞー。夜中にいきなりひどい悪寒に襲われ、歯の根の合わない音がまわりに響くように思えるほど。一気に３９度近くまで熱が上がりベッドでうんうんうなってましたが、我慢できずトイレいったらほんとに嘔吐物、胃から噴き出すような感じでした。続いて下痢症状。ベッドとトイレとの往復の夜中じゅうの繰り返し。あまりの気分の悪さに意識もはっきりせず、１時間近くうなってたつもりが３分しか経ってないということが何回もあった。でも周りにうつしちゃいけないという考えから看病も頼めず、自分の嘔吐物をハイターで自分で洗浄する悲しさ。何にせよやはり病気は辛いです。

でもほんとに２日くらいで治るのね。さすがにふらふらになったけど。一度こんなに流行ってしまったウィルス、来年の冬なども大流行になってしまうのかな。

日本橋planetarium

heyyyy...i went to Toshiba's Planetarium "Hokusai's World" at Nihonbashi last week and hmmmm..... it's located there temporaly to re-excite Nihonbashi which was once the biggest entertainment district (in Edo era) in Tokyo but i just can't get that idea. the planetarium was so small and the show was so short! though it got the name "planetarium" their main part was some dull story but not stars. they showed stars only a while. the rest time was 3 main characters' ongoing play to find "true themselves" and i didn't like it so much.....　しょぼいものに人を誘ってしまうと申し訳ないね。

seems i didn't have much good luck with planetarium so far.... i was taken into planetarium when i went to the planetarium in Sunshine Ikebukuro long long time ago and was so happy to find big big planetarium next to ROM in Toronto. but they got only shell left! no money to keep it run. that's what they said. so i went to the small planetarium in science center in North York and it was not bad though i expected something more.

どこかいいplanetariumないかな。つぶれてしまった渋谷の一度行ってみたかったです。でも去年の夏の終わり、夜中２，３時くらいに近所を歩いていたら本当に大きな流れ星みました。だれか見ていなかったかなあ。 ネオンの明るさの上からでも見れる流れ星はまた格別なものがあります。ちょっとromanticでした。

年明け

年明けはバーゲン時期でもあるせいか、またはこの頃物欲が強くなったのか前よりかは結構自分の周りに物が増えてきました。

お正月に買ったもの。
プリント柄の入ったワンピース。
活用できそうな茶色のパンプス。
A4サイズで肩から掛けられる茶色の蛇腹のバッグ。
その他細々とした小物。

普段あまり物を買わず、買い物が下手くそだと認識してるため全て友達のアドバイスに従ってしまった。目利きな友達を持っていると助かります。

それとカナダからのお土産。２つの水泳帽です。お花がたくさん付いたレトロなタイプです。かねがね水泳帽はみんな地味なメッシュやシリコンのものしかなく面白くないなあ、と思っていたのでこの水泳帽結構嬉しいです。でも使う時ない。みんなひたすら自分を鍛えるために休みなしに泳いでいるような東京体育館プールでこんなふざけた帽子使うこと許されるのかなあ。

それとこの頃この歳になってヒカリモノの小物増えてきました。歳をとると派手なものを使う傾向にあるというけれどその通りになってます。でもおばあさんになったらピンクとかオレンジを差し色として使いたいなあ、と今から思ってるので自分のこの傾向別に抵抗ない。

そう、それとヒカリモノと言えば今日友達に誘われて”ヒカリモノ、大丈夫です”とかいう演劇見てきた。あのようなこじんまりとした手作り感たっぷりの劇をみたのは久しぶりでした。基本的に演劇は日常生活とは離れた話し方するし、ドタバタ劇場とか観てて少し疲れて苦手であったりするけど（だからフランス映画の8 women, 人気あったようですが個人的にはペケ）、今日のもご他聞にもれずその系統だったのですがまあ小さな喫茶店でしてくれたのでまったりできて有難かった。
まずは１０年ぶりに小学校の同級生に再会できたのが嬉しかったというのもあるのでしょう。変わってるようでいて皆変わってないし、小さい頃知ってる人はブランクがあってもそれを感じさせないのが不思議。私もそこまで変わってないのでしょう。

明けましておめでとう

明けましておめでとうございます。本年も宜しくお願いいたします。

Oshougatsu(New Year's Holidays) is one of my favorite time. making a new resolution, paying a vitit to a shrine, not many people in Tokyo... this new year's start doesn't seem bad either. made it to a countdown, finished sending "nengajo" to my friends, eating nice foods.... おせち料理は決してすごく美味しいというものではないけれど、でもやはり年始まりにはこれを食べないとすっきりしない。おいしいものは２日目からのデパ地下セールで補えばいいので。だからめでたく紅白和菓子。和菓子つくりにも一度トライしてみたいとは思っているのですが、まず洋菓子とは使う粉が違うし食紅なども揃えなくてはいけないのでなかなか機会なし。やはり今年も洋菓子作りかな。まずは美味しそうなraisin頂いたのでそれを使おうか。枝付きレーズンです。普通の粒より倍近く大きくて甘い。だからそのまま食べるべきものかな。

when i cook i keep tv on but nothing to watch at Oshogatsu time! why they show only comedies? so i just gave up tv and went to watch a movie. you can watch a movie at 1000 yen every 1st day of months. that's good thing. this time my choice was "Tekkonkinkreet（鉄コン筋クリート）" based on Taiyo Matsumoto's comic and it was good. its story is about 2 boys' friendship in a kind of inner city over troubles involving yakuzas and cyborgs... the touch of the animation was great and the voice actors were awsome. シロ役を蒼井優がしているのですがあの難しい役どころを舌っ足らずな物言いで引っ張っていってます。二宮和也もいい声していたとは今まで気づかなかった。ちょっと長めで途中だれるようなところもあるけれど、やたら複雑なストーリー仕立てにしてないし、シロの可愛さがあるのでオッケー。

xmas2

クリスマスパーティー結構参加できました。
大学時代の友達を呼んで家でおしゃべり楽しんだ後、そのまま夜は新宿に流れて他のお友達の企画したクリスマスパーティーに参加。歌舞伎町に行ったの久しぶりだったけれど色んな世界がありますね。この頃は友達の結婚式にお呼ばれする機会あってホテルだったり神宮だったりするけれど、歌舞伎町とかで結婚式をあげるのもありなんですね。ラスベガスとかであげるのと同じような感覚だったりするのかな。

結構色んな人が参加してたパーチーですが結局知り合い同士で固まっておしゃべりしちゃう傾向。でも幹事さんの計らいで他の人たちと知り合う機会ももらいました。話を聞く限りみんななかなか自分の好きなことをして過ごしています。日本はどうしてもレールに敷かれた方向に進まなくてはいけないような雰囲気があるけど、あまり周りのこと気にせずに仕事を辞めたかったら辞めて、色んな不思議な会に参加したかったら参加したらよいと思います。と、抽象的なことしかいえないけど。

家では鍋パーティーもできたし。鍋はよい。まずあの買い物する過程が楽しいし何買ってもよいし。それに鍋は自然暖かい雰囲気になるし。おしゃべりがはずまなくても気にならない雰囲気。といってもしゃべり続けていましたが。やっぱりクリスマス一緒に過ごしてくれる友達がいるのは有難いことです。さていつ裏切られるかな～。

merry x'mas!

Merry X'mas! 今年もお陰で楽しく過ごせました。 atmosphere of the end of the year everywhere. 年末はどこもかしこも忙しい雰囲気になるけど結構好きです。この忙しい勢いに任せて今年起きた嫌な出来事だけ忘れられたらいいですね。

xmasに合わせてちゃんとcake作りました。左じゃなく右です。chocolate cake. sachertorte with yuzu jam (a kind of japanese marmalade) since i couldn't find apricot jam. スポンジは私にしてはかなりしっとりうまくできました。処理できずに困ってた成城石井のトリュフチョコ使ったのがよかったのかな。but the ganache turned out so bad~~. i put too much fresh cream in it and it didn't get firm. so the sponge part was a little bit soggy but it taste pretty good. 失敗したときにはとにかくデコレーションで隠すのがよい。だからクリスマス用sprinkleばらまきました。
でもせっかくだからnot only homemade one but i opened the cholate cake from erica. then i found out it was not a cake. it's all chocolate! chocolate xmas tree. erica's chocolate is one of my favorite, especially the one with marshemalow is the best. 甘いけど美味しいです。

鍋パーティーもできたし遊びすぎたかな？

big x'mas tree standing before avex group(big music company which ayumi hamazaki belongs to). i don't remember if i ever liked songs from this company (their songs target mostly teenagers) but this x'mas tree is fantasitic. changes its colors, beaming pretty illuminating decorations..... and the good thing about this place is that it's not crowded here than other place! oh i hate going out on weekend in tokyo. especially when you've got to be careful for norovirus.....

昔不思議な鍵ばあさんか何かの絵本で、こういう風に覆いで絵を描いた林檎が出てくるシーンがあって結構憧れた記憶があります。これでメッセージ書いて簡単にプレゼントできたら結構素敵だな。

I've joined another wedding party of my friend from university. so i had two wedding parties in a row in 2 weeks. and already have 3 reservasation of my friends' wedding parties in the next year. happy happy weddings everywhere! except here. oh well i won't complain. i don't even put much effort in that and i don't deserve the complaint, haha.

anyways....
the wedding was awesome. i went as a side of bridegroom's friends and i could tell he was so nervous. but who can't be nervous facing the moment of the biggest ceremony in life? i get nervous even at the job interview. getting nervous at the wedding ceremony makes more sense.
(ところでこの間求職活動中に面接を受けたのですが、面接中に「英語が得意だそうですね。じゃあ"面接でとても緊張しています”と英語で言ってください」といきなり言われてしまった。それなのにi'm really nervousという言葉が出てこない！もう完全に日本語にもなっているのにぃ。で、i'm really getting stressed out at the job interviewと答えた。直訳すると「面接でストレス感じてます」。言った途端、やばいかな～と思ったのですが結果的にはokだったみたいです。よかった、よかった。

after the wedding ceremony was done solemnly in a church, we moved to gorgeous banquet place to have bridal reception. 坂の上に立てられた洋館（素敵な日本風家屋も併設）で武蔵野が見渡せいいところでした。全部で６０人くらいの披露宴だったのですがそれくらいが多すぎもせず少なすぎもせず良いと思います。家族、友達皆合わせて祝っている雰囲気があふれてて良いお式でした。i'm glad i could share the moment of happiness by being there. so who's the next?

M&A

this is a pic from my elementary school mate's wedding party. the bride looks soo pretty, doesn't she? she was wearing her mom's hand-knitted wedding dress and it was so nice on her.

I went to the wedding party with my friends from elementary school so it was more a reunion than a wedding party. we just kept eating, drinking and talking....we had really good time there and hope we didn't spoil the party's atmosphere.

ちょっと調子にのって飲みすぎたか。
花嫁、花婿そっちのけでおしゃべりに花を咲かせながら、みんなでお皿にこんもりお料理を盛って食べた食べた。立食形式のくせにあんなにお腹いっぱいになるって一体どういうことなんでしょ。普通結婚式といえば出会いの場なのにぃ。友達同士で固まって異様なオーラ出してたような、ごめんなさい。でもhappy wedding!

after one party is done, another party is coming! we just moved on to ropponngi to join other friends' party. Roppongi is an entertainment district so many foreigners get together. it was almost like I was back in Canada. much diversity over there. i could hear people speaking English, French and others...どうしてみんな六本木ばかり集まるんだろう。

it was fun but clubbing in japan costs a little expensive and it is too crowded! I couldn't even breath being mobbed by so many dancing ppl. ほんと死ぬかと思った。i felt odd to see so many ppl around 2 am but now i remembr richmond st& john st in toronto was like that too. universal.

六本木って夜遊びの街ではあるけど何がいまいち特別なのかも分からずそこまで好きなところではない。西麻布のほうまで行かないとあまり美味しそうなところも見つけられなさそうで。まあ映画館にしろrestaurantsにせよ朝までやっているところがあるのはある意味有難いのだけれどね。
だから朝８時まで営業のうどん屋入ったけどそこの銀杏おいしかった。今年は銀杏拾うの忘れちゃったなあ。塩をたくさんまぶして低温で炒るといいのかな。皮を腐らせるために土中に埋めるんだったか。

ちょっとくだらないけど・・・・ this is a nameplate on a building near my place. i just can't help laughing every time i pass by here. look at the person's name on the 4th floor! 里見茂. whoever have read comics "ガラスの仮面” will know the reason.

ここに住んでられる里見さんには悪いけれどいつも笑ってしまうのです。これって北島マヤの初恋相手と同姓同名だぞ～。あの漫画を読むたびに青春スターにしては古臭い名前だなあ、なんて勝手に思ってましたが。

写真

デジカメが壊れてずっと使えない状態です。仕方ないからこの頃はcamera phoneを使ってばかり。だから携帯にたまった写真を整理しようとのぞいてみたらちょっとショックだった。ほとんど食べ物と犬の写真ばかり。普段の生活が窺い知れるというか、もう少し興味の範囲を広げないとね。
でも美味しそうな食べ物の写真のほうが綺麗な景色の写真を後で見返すより楽しいです。

この頃は機械類に運がなく、パソコンも壊れてしまい保存していた写真やら音楽も全部消えてしまった。そろそろバックアップしようかなーと思ってた矢先のことで自分のずぼらさが責められる。だから何かの時のためにflickrのアカウントを作ったのでこれからそこに保存していくつもり。

この間四谷の若葉の鯛焼き食べました。尻尾までアンコが詰まっててこれぞ、鯛焼き！という感じでした。ちっちゃい頃にしょっちゅう食べていたという訳でもないのに何故か懐かしい気分にさせてくれます。それとこの頃いわゆる東京銘菓がやたら家にある。鳩サブレやひよこなどね。cosycornerとかひよことかは駅構内で売っているお菓子というイメージが強いからか馬鹿にされがちな感があるけど、ギンビスと同じで動物型のお菓子っていつ食べても楽しい。

あとこの頃好きな納豆の食べ方。おくらと半熟卵と一緒にダシ醤油と一緒にぐちゃぐちゃにして食べます。それなりに栄養のバランスも一気に取れた気になれます。

この頃やたら来客が多く、そうなると食べ物に触れる時間が多かった。常にご飯、デザート、飲み物に囲まれてまた太ってしまったかな。
でも色んな人が遊びに来てくれるとお菓子を作る機会も増えて嬉しいです。さすがにケーキ何台も作って一人で食べてしまうわけにも行かないので。

だからこの２週間ちょこちょこ甘いもの作りました。basicなpudding、applepie、shortcakeからbeer cakeなどまでね。

この頃お酒のケーキに凝ってます。基本のbrandy cakeの作り方さえ知ってれば、そのbrandyをsweet plum brandyやbeerにかえてみたり。家には昭和の時代からつけてある梅酒などがまだ残っているのだけれど、ただ梅酒の飲み時は漬けてから大体３年くらいとのこと。さすがにそのまま飲むにはちょっと味が濃すぎるので料理に使ってます。１つかじっただけで酔ってしまうほど漬かった梅を刻んで生地にいれて、焼きあがったケーキに濃い～梅酒をバシャバシャ振りかけるとちょっと梅の酸味が利いたかなり大人なケーキができます。ただお酒のケーキって焼き上げてから数日経って食べるほうが格段に美味しくなるので、その待っている間が結構辛い。

写真は豚のビール煮とビールケーキ。この間親戚一同が皆で家に遊びに来てくれたのですが、その時点で皆さんかなり出来上がってた。がんがんウィスキーやらビールを空けて騒いで楽しかったのだけれど、皆グラスにビールを注いだことを忘れて次のビールを開けて他のグラスに注ぐということを繰り返していたものだから、皆が帰った時点で中途半端に空いたビールが３L近く残っていることに気付いた。その処理に困って大量のビール煮とビールに浸したパウンドケーキ作りました。
ビール煮はただお肉にコンソメやら生姜やらを加えてビールでひたひたにして煮るだけだからかなり簡単。ビールのお陰でお肉も柔らかくなるし結構使えそう。ビールケーキもあの苦味がケーキとマッチしているかというのは個人の好みに分かれそうだけどたまになら悪くないです。
次はクリスマスに合わせてシュトーレンでもつくろうかな～。

voy a ir a taiwan de manana por este fin de semana con mi amiga! es mi primero vez para visitar ahi. parese que voy a otraz paises muchos veses demasiado? creo que tambien. dicen que taiwan es una paise como japon pequeno pero es muy interesante siempre para ir a otras paises. quedarnos ahi por solamente dos dias pero es suficiente porque comidas son parte de lo mas divertimento! voy a poster unas fotografias pronto.

japanese tv commercials

Now the business is getting better after long long recession in Japan. I really cannot tell that cause my life itself hasn't changed at all but one of the way to realize the economic boom in Japan is to watch tv commercials.
when the business is bad tv producers just tried not to spend much money into tv show making. they were trying to make mostly low-budget programs like comedy shows or quiz shows with low-paid tv talents. so were commercials. but it's changing now and I get confused if I were back to the time of the economic bubble every time when I watch tv commercials. There are soooo many Hollywood celebs are on! okay, here's some example....

I wonder how much the companies pay for the these actors. Can they gain the payback from selling the products over the performance fees for them? I don't think so. The CalorieMate Jack Bauer is advertising is only $2 box of cookies. hmmmm.....
I think it's kind of stupid that companies pay such huge wages for actors to make an advertisement (because you can make fun and efficient advertisement with low budget. good advertisement is the one which can leave strong impression on customers and it doesn't necessarily mean that it requires much money to be so. good example is play station commercials from SCE) but anyway it is fun to watch them.

L'artemis

いいfrench restaurant見つけました。L'artemis Petillante. 場所が原宿駅からも千駄ヶ谷からもしばらく歩かなくてはいけない、というのがたった１つの難ですがそれでも通いたい。

ここのいいところは見ただけでヨダレの出てしまいそうなメニューの多さもさることながら、フレンチとしては手の届き易い値段設定でありながら一流フレンチとしてのサーヴィスマンのプロ意識。丁寧で感じの良い対応の仕方、こちらの進行具合、体調を見ながらの量を増減してくれる気配り。お高くとまった感じはないのにああ～フレンチ食べに来た、と実感させてくれて満足感たっぷりです。
ワインについては私は全く知識ないけどそれでも数の多さは確認できた。ワイン好きにもきっとたまらないお店のはず。

私は今回前菜一品、メイン一品を選べるペティアントコースを選びました。他にもメイン２品や前菜２品の選べるコース、お任せコースなどがあるけれどアミューズなどがついてきてpaceも遅い事もありpetillant courseで十分おなか一杯になります。しかし結構時間かけてコースがでてきたのでぜんたいの回転は遅いお店のはず。その分coupleや気の合う友達と長居するのに最適。

私が頼んだ前菜：ズワイガニのフランとavocadoのカプチーノ。カップの下にたっぷりカニが詰まっていて真ん中にアボカドのムースっぽいもの。一番上がカプチーノの泡。綺麗な３層になっていて下からすくって戴きます。濃厚なのに泡でさっぱり。
私が頼んだメイン：wildrice詰めのうずらのroast。ライスが結構濃く味付けされているのでさっぱりめのうずらと一緒で丁度良い。

今回両親と両親のお友達と一緒に行き、みんなが頼んだものもつまみ食いしてしまった。前菜の瞬間燻製salmonと温泉玉子、人気menuらしいですがやはり美味しい。肉厚のサーモンそれだけで旨みがある。でも豚のほほ肉の煮込みを頼んだ父はその濃厚さがちょっと苦手だったよう。でもmainのお魚のじゃが芋とあさりの煮込みは美味しかったと言っていました。

それとやはりdessert! ４種類から選べるのだけど全部tryしたかったなあ。今回はいちじくのcomportにカキ氷（？）をかけたもの、chocolateの冷たい何か（ごめんなさい、覚えてません）、スポンジに洋ナシのコンポートをのせてriquer creamをひたしたもの、それと焼きたてスフレから選べた。
私は洋ナシ頼んだけどかなりお酒が効いていてサバランのような大人のデザート。イチジクも味見させてもらったけど絶品です。イチジク味のシャーベットがかなりお酒が利いてる。スフレもかな～り美味しそうだった。次回、次回。

結局２時間以上留まってしまいました。lunchもやっているので是非行きたいなあ。前から食べたかったお店なので今回行けてかなり満足でした。
